27 January — Online teaching about AI research seminar
Salomey Afua Addo (University of Cambridge) — Teaching about neural networks in junior high schools in Ghana
In our 2025 seminar series, we have focused on teaching about AI and data science in schools and have heard from many incredible speakers. We are now delighted to end the series with a seminar by Salomey Afua Addo, who will talk about teaching about neural networks in junior high schools in Ghana.
In this seminar, Salomey will present findings from her three-year PhD study on teaching AI in Ghanaian junior high schools, outlining the educational context and sharing unplugged learning activities that introduce how a simple neural network is trained. She will also discuss using storytelling to teach AI ethics and reflect on teachers’ classroom experiences and the pedagogical content knowledge needed to teach neural networks effectively.
This will be our final seminar session in the 2025-26 series, with our new series launching in February.
